Building Mind Harmony: From Concept to Launch
Mind Harmony is a mental health platform that connects users with licensed therapists for personalized, on-demand therapy services.
My role involved developing the landing page and streamlining the user experience to make therapy more accessible, approachable, and efficient.
Project Goals:
Build a mental health therapy platform.
Design a user-friendly landing page.
Increase therapy session bookings.
Challenges:
Limited user research due to a small target audience.
Need for clear therapist categorization to simplify user navigation.
By focusing on a user-first approach, Mind Harmony achieved:
50% increase in therapy bookings within the first three months.
65% overall user engagement during onboarding.
Positive user feedback on the clarity and ease of use of the landing page and booking system.
Constraints:
Tight timeline: A three-month deadline required prioritization of key features, leaving some enhancements for future updates.
Third-party integration: Integrating with external booking software restricted customization and required close collaboration with developers.
Regulatory compliance: Ensuring HIPAA compliance influenced data handling and design decisions.
Step 1: User Research & Pain Points
With no formal budget for user research, I had to get creative. I quickly set up Typeform surveys to gather feedback and conducted a few informal user interviews with the target audience (first-time therapy seekers, busy parents, and young professionals).
Cost Uncertainty: 60% of respondents said they were unsure about therapy costs and would hesitate to book if prices weren’t transparent.
Privacy Concerns: In 3 out of the 5 interviews I conducted, users mentioned being nervous about sharing sensitive mental health information online. Privacy and trust were major concerns.
Tech Anxiety: Several users expressed anxiety around navigating an online platform for something as personal as therapy.
These insights guided the specific project goals we needed to achieve to address user pain points.
Step 2: Setting Clear Project Goals
The goals were based on key touchpoints from the User Journey Map:
Design a landing page that simplifies booking and addresses user concerns around affordability (Step 2) and privacy (Step 3).
Increase bookings by 30% by creating a smooth transition from exploring options (Step 2) to booking a session (Step 4).
Integrate trust-building elements like testimonials and privacy assurances to address user concerns, especially during the exploration and booking phases.
With these goals in place, I designed wireframes to translate these ideas into practical solutions.
Step 3: Wireframing & Prototyping
I quickly moved to wireframing, sketching out various low-fidelity wireframes to explore layout and hierarchy. My main priorities were:
Simplified Navigation: I kept the page flow simple—just a few sections with clear calls to action and a straightforward journey from landing on the page to booking therapy.
Sliding Scale Pricing Tool: Since cost uncertainty was the biggest barrier, I created an interactive tool that would let users enter their income and immediately see the estimated monthly cost for therapy. This was the cornerstone feature to address the issue of price transparency.
Trust Elements: I designed sections for testimonials and licensed therapist profiles. These would help build trust by showing potential users the real impact of therapy and the qualifications of MindHarmony’s professionals.
Once I had a wireframe in which I felt confident, I moved to high-fidelity mockups in Figma and used informal testing (gathering feedback from friends and colleagues) to validate the core elements.
Step 4: Final Landing Page Build
After testing the wireframes and getting fast feedback, I finalized the design and implemented the following key sections:
Hero Section with Clear Value Proposition
The hero section immediately communicates the platform's benefits, making it clear that users can access licensed therapists on demand. It builds trust right from the start, showing the value of the service upfront.
Nature-Based Illustrations
These visuals create a calming effect, making therapy feel more natural and approachable, which helps reduce the stigma often associated with mental health
Urgent Online Therapy Section
This section provides a quick and easy path for users who need immediate help, ensuring that the platform is accessible and responsive for those in urgent
Pricing Slider
The slider gives users control over their therapy costs, addressing one of the biggest fears-pricing uncertainty. This transparency encourages more users to explore the platform without worrying about hidden fees.
Testimonials for Social Proof
Highlighting real user testimonials reassures potential clients that others have had positive experiences with the platform, boosting credibility and making users feel more confident in their choice.
Step 5: Results & Success
The landing page went live, and within 30 days, the results exceeded expectations:
30% increase in therapy bookings, meeting the business goal right on target.
The bounce rate dropped from 65% to 40%, meaning more users stayed on the page and engaged with the content.
User feedback was overwhelmingly positive. A post-launch survey showed that 85% of users appreciated the transparent pricing feature, and many commented that the testimonials helped them trust the platform more.
Key design features like the pricing slider, nature-based illustrations, and clear calls to action directly increased bookings and user engagement.
“The new landing page makes it so much easier to understand how affordable therapy can be. The pricing tool was exactly what I needed to make an informed decision, and the entire process felt straightforward and secure. I really appreciated the transparency and ease of use.”
Emma Johnson, Test User
“Steve’s ability to merge user research with business objectives is what sets him apart. His sliding scale pricing tool directly tackled the cost concerns we saw in the data, and the testimonials added a level of trust that we hadn’t seen before.”
Stephen Brown, Head of Marketing
Step 6: What I Learned & What’s Next
What I’ve Learned
This project taught me the value of resourceful, fast research. Even without a big budget, quick surveys and interviews allowed me to find the necessary ways to take effective action.
Cost Transparency Works: The sliding scale pricing tool directly addressed the most significant user pain point, and its impact was reflected in the 30% increase in bookings.
Simple, Trust-Building Elements Are Key: Features like therapist profiles and user testimonials played a huge role in converting skeptical users.
Testing and Iteration: I could iterate and improve the design before launch by quickly gathering feedback on the prototypes, making the landing page more user-friendly.
What’s Next
While the landing page met its goals, there are still areas for future improvement:
A/B Testing for CTAs: I plan to run A/B tests to see if alternative wording or placement of the “Get Started” button can further improve conversions.
Personalized User Flows: Introducing a simple quiz that recommends the right therapist based on user needs could increase the likelihood of a booking.
